Description
This photograph of The Sea of Galilee and surrounding area was taken from Kibbutz Ginosar which is north of Tiberias and on the western side of the lake. Founded in 1937 it was originally an agricultural community but now its primary economy is derived from tourism as this is the area " The Jesus Boat " was discovered in 1986. There was a drought that year which dropped the level of the lake and the frame of a fishing boat dating back (via carbon dating) to around 100 BCE was discovered; hence, the name, " Jesus Boat. " I took this photograph right outside the museum. There was such a tranquil atmosphere at the kibbutz and The Jesus Boat Museum provided a great presentation of this important historical and archaeological discovery.
