Description
This is a mute swan which seems to be the most frequently photographed of the different types of swans. It is closely related to the duck and goose, but definitely is in a league of its own when it comes to graceful movement in the water. Swans tend to mate for life, but in this case this swan did not have a mate, at least the mate was not visible. The photograph was captured on Lake Susan in Montreat, North Carolina.
