Description
Most of us know that Jesus went about teaching, healing, casting out demons, and doing miracles. Perhaps Jesus is not known as well for other things like "making" disciples. Scripture tells us that as Jesus was walking beside the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon called Peter and his brother Andrew. They were casting a net into the lake, for they were fishermen. When he says to them to " Come, Follow Me," they at once left their nets and followed him. Matthew 4:21,22 "Going on from there, he saw two other brothers, James son of Zebedee and his brother John. They were in a boat with their father Zebedee, preparing their nets. Jesus called them, and immediately they left the boat and their father and followed him." It is hard to imagine immediately leaving your livelihood, not to mention your father in order to follow a mere teacher. But, you see Jesus was more than that and as each disciple was called, he recognized the voice of The Master who was challenging him to go where he had never gone before, and to be made " a fisherman of people." Matthew 4:19 " Come Follow Me,"Jesus said, "and I Will send you out to fish for people." There must have been a yearning " for more " in each of these men to have surrendered so quickly to the voice of this rabbi. As we read on in the gospels and other New Testament scriptures we learn that these men became not only disciples of Jesus, but Apostles and leaders of the early Church. Jesus is still calling! He needs more " fishers of people ". There's only one requirement to fish for people: You must have already been caught yourself!
