Description
This photograph was taken outside of The Art Institute of Chicago (not visible in the image). Mrs. Henry Field commissioned Edward Kemeys to create the two Art Institute lions in memory of her husband. In May 1894, the bronze lions were placed in front of the museum and serve as a distinguished signpost for the museum. The Art Institute of Chicago, founded in 1879 and located in Chicago's Grant Park, is one of the oldest and largest art museums in the United States. Also, these beautiful statues standing in the midst of historical buildings on South Michigan Ave, provide an enhanced dimension to the historical atmosphere already expressed by the city's beautiful historical architecture.
