Description
This photograph of a rainbow lorikeet was taken at Riverbanks Zoo and Garden in Columbia, South Carolina. These birds are parrots and are very endearing to visitors. Not only are they beautiful and brilliant in color, but they enjoy eating a nectar mix right out of your cup in your hand that has prepared by the zoo. The wild survive mainly on nectar and flower pollen. Their tongues have uniquely adapted "brushes" on the tips to help them harvest these foods from the plants in their environment. They make great pets, but have to be cared for properly due to their dietary, activity and social needs. These birds are native to Australia and Indonesia.

Nice shot. I feed a few of these every morning. They chase the galahs off the seeds.
