Description
This panoramic view of the southern side of Jerusalem can be seen from the Haas Promenade. This view shows much of the Old city to include the Temple Mount, the most holiest of sites for the Jewish people and where the Islamic Dome of The Rock sits. The Haas Promenade is a great place to start or complete a tour to Israel. I didn't know it at the time, but have since learned that the high ridge on the promenade may be indirectly mentioned in the Bible: 'Abraham looked up and saw the place in the distance. He said to his servants, "Stay here …"' (Genesis 22:4-5). Tradition has it that this is the place from which Abraham saw the mountain where he was to offer his son Isaac. The mountain referred to is Mt. Moriah which is the location of the the Temple Mount just right to the center of the image at the old wall in the background. It is from this ridge, The Armon Hanetziv, where one is first able to see the Temple Mount when approaching from the south.
