Description
A journey to the Waccatee Zoo near Myrtle Beach, SC brought a surprise as I walked across a bridge and landed in a beautifully wooded cove with a number of egrets flying around and hanging out in the trees. The shade of the trees brought coolness to the morning, and the birds seemed to just be playing around and enjoying life. The zoo is located where the Waccamaw River, Intracoastal Waterway and Socastee Creek join. My guess is that if I had come in Spring this little cove would have been converted into a breeding and nesting area for hundreds of egrets, herons and other wading and migratory birds. I have added a filter on this nature image to give it a painterly effect.
