Description
I love Vereen Memorial Park and Gardens! This photograph depicts one of several boardwalks that visitors can access to enjoy the 115 (or so) acre tract of salt marsh and woodlands that is located very close to the South Carolina/North Carolina line. It is right next door to Calabash, North Carolina, but technically in Little River, SC! Truly one of South Carolina's hidden jewels!.This treasure, located on the intracoastal waterway, is a portion of a 400 acre plantation that was owned by the Vereen family since colonial days. In 1972 115 acres was deeded to the Horry County Historical Commission by Jackson Hiram Vereen to be used as a botanical garden and nature trail. It is now a part of the Horry County park system. Definitely worth getting off the beaten path when you are in the Myrtle Beach area. Experience nature!
