Description
This photo was taken while on photo safari in Amboseli National Park in Kenya.
Amboseli National Park is the second most popular national park in Kenya after Maasai Mara National Reserve. The name Amboseli comes from the word "empusel," which in the language of the local Masai tribe means "salty dust." Amboseli is indeed dusty, primarily because of Mt. Kilimanjaro which is some 25 miles away. It is a snow covered volocanic moutain that exceeds 19,000 feet. There are watering spots for the animails partly due to the snow that melts from Kilimanjaro. Springs, marshes and swamps are fed by the underground snow that pours into them. Elephants, zebra, wildebeests, giraffes, impala, leopards, lions, hippos, antelope, rhinos, wild dogs, hyenas, cheetah, buffalo, and more than 400 species of birds inhabit the park.
