Description
A quick shot through the front windshield as I was waiting for a light to change in Manistee, Michigan resulted in what you see. Actually, this is only part of the frame, but I wanted to highlight the beautiful stonework of this historical building.
The website for The Ramsdell Inn and TJ's Pub conveys the following:." Built in 1891 for a cost between $30,000 and $40,000, the T.J. Ramsdell Building serves as the anchor to the most prominent corner in Manistee, Michgan. Quaintly situated in the heart of Downtown Manistee on the corner of River and Maple Street, the Ramsdell Building was originally built to serve First National Bank. Designed by Fred Hollister of East Saginaw the 26' x 100' building footprint has four total floors, the bottom two comprised of granite and the top two of brick.
Notable businesses in this building consist of First National Bank, City Drug, Leila's Clothing, Olen's Painting & More. The building was falling into disrepair until 2000 when a philanthropist stepped forward to take on a massive restoration project to restore the entire building and transform it into the quaint 10 room Inn that we have today. Restored to its original glory, the upper two floors of the Ramsdell Building each consist of 5 rooms with the corner suites being the magnificent gems. The main level bank lobby has been transformed to a reception and special events/meeting space. The original bank vault is actually used as the Inn's gift shoppe.
The lower level of the Ramsdell Building has been converted to one of Manistee's greatest restaurants. T.J's Pub creates a new life to this 100+ year old building and has seating for 50."
