Artist's Description

This photograph was taken in Jackson Mississippi's Old State Capitol. This three story structure was constructed between 1833 and 1840. John Lawrence, was the initial architect, but was replaced by William Nichols in 1836 who completed the project. In 1903 a new State Capitol was completed and the Old Capitol remained vacant until 1916 when it was renovated and used for state office space. In 1961 it was renovated again to become The State Historical Museum. The old state capitol was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1969., and 1n 1990 it became a National Historical Landmark. It is quite an impressive building architecturally and holds many of Mississippi's historical treasures.

About Lydia Holly

Lydia Holly

I have enjoyed taking photos since I was a little girl, but especially began learning about the skill and art of photography in college; however, as years went by I, like most of us, put the camera in the drawer and would pull it out only for special occasions. For the most part, photography has been a passion that I put on the shelf; but now I have the opportunity to share with others some of my favorite photos, while exploring creative and new styles in photography and digital art. I enjoy taking photos of just about anything...animals, nature, vistas, people, architecture, and landscapes. I love it all! I am in awe of God's creation and ever so thankful that I have the opportunity to reflect a piece of it through a photograph. I hope...
