Description
I have re-processed and made some adustments for those who like " Sheep Family Portrait " but prefer a bit more texture and green! This photograph was taken many years ago on a farm in the northern island of New Zealand. I was amazed when all four sheep stopped moving and posed for this photograph. I still posses a wool clipping from one of the two in the front! I love sheep and New Zealand surely has a lot of them. Though the ratio of sheep to people has dropped tremendously over the last 30 plus years New Zealand still has a higher ratio than Austrailia which at present is about 3 sheep to one person. New Zealand sheep numbers peaked in 1982, with a total of 70.3 million sheep. In the same year, 3.18 million people lived in New Zealand. This works out to 22 sheep per person; however, that number has has dropped to about 6 sheep per person with the last sheep number being around 30 million, and the people population a little under 5 million. Sheep farming is a very important part of New Zealand's agriculture. I was surprised to find out that for 130 years, sheep farming was the country's most important agricultural industry, but it was overtaken by dairy farming in 1987. I lived in this beautiful country for 6 months in 1990s and saw very few cows, but I saw thousands and thousands of sheep. Hope you enjoy my family portrait.
