Description
This great white egret in full breeding plumage has come to mate, build a nest, and raise baby chicks at the Alligator Farm's Wading Bird Rookery in St, Augustine, Florida. This photograph was taken in Spring, and it is during Spring when you can view hundreds of birds in a natural setting mating, building nests, and raising their young. Native herons, egrets, ibis, spoonbills and wood storks fly to the area, and specifically to The Alligator Farm's swamp to mate and raise their young. Even though hundreds of alligators swim beneath the oak branches hoping to catch an egg or baby bird that has fallen out of the nest, these birds are attracted to the area because they know their young are safe from tree-climbing predators. A wooden boardwalk over the swamp provides visitors fantastic views of Florida's beautiful wading birds! Some of the birds or nests are so close you could almost reach out and touch them. This place is a photographer's dream . My first experience in viewing these birds in full breeding plumage was at the Alligator Farm and I highly recommend it for bird lovers and photographers.
