Artist's Description
I have journeyed by this building many times over the years, and took the time to get out of the car and take a few photographs. Moore County Court House stands in the heart of Carthage, NC. I have added a filter to give it a bit of an artistic look. Enjoy those windows! The following information about the courthouse is taken from the Carthage, NC website:
"Moore County was created by dividing Cumberland County on July 4th,1784. Since there was no incorporated town in the new county to serve as the county seat or locate the official courthouse, in 1796 a committee of the legislature selected a site in the center of the new county. The name given to the new courthouse site was Carthage, which was finally confirmed by the General Assembly in 1818. The remainder of the town was not laid out until 1803.
Ten years later in 1814, the courthouse was moved to the present location of the historic courthouse at the intersection of the main avenue of Carthage. Carthage is on a...
