Description
This young looking ibex was with a few others at the Ein Gedi Nature Reserve in Israel. I think this is a Nubian ibex, akin to the mountain goat. The Nubian ibex is an endangered species. They live in mountainous desert areas and eat grass, as this one is doing, and leaf buds and leaves. They are endangered as hunters desire their meat and horns. These animals are also found in Algeria, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Egypt, Ethiopia, Eritrea, Yemen, and Sudan. Their wild population is estimated at 1,200. They look like deer to me!

Lydia, what a truly wonderful and amazing portrait of this beautiful ibex! Mazel Tov, Congratulations! I understand these majestic animals are usually very shy, and quite a challenge to photograph. This image is a beauty! F/L
