Description
This photograph of this lovely coastal bird, the roseate spoonbill, was captured at the natural rookery connected with the Alligator Farm in St. Augustine, Florida. This wading bird is in the spoonbill and and ibis family and lives close to coastal waters. It competes for food in shallow waters with the snowy and great egrets, tri colored herons, and white pelicans. The bright rose/pink color and flattened bill readily sets it apart from other wading birds and these birds are a delight to watch whether they are hunting for food or flying. I enjoy this image because of the dynamic an brilliant wing spread on this beautiful bird! Though it's not an eagle, it surely is impressive in flight!
