Description
This photograph was taken on the way into the Elizabethan Gardens which is in Manteo, North Carolina. Manteo is on Roanoke Island and very close to the Outer Banks. The gardens are a living memorial to the time when Sir Walter Raleighs lost colonists lived in this very place over 400 years Year-long highlights include beautiful winter-time Camellias, spring bulbs, colorful summer landscapes from hydrangeas to crepe myrtles, autumn hues of ornamental grasses and salvia, as well as seasonal events. Renaissance statues are in the garden, and there is a statute of Queen Elizabeth 1 that is very impressive. The Elizabethan Gardens is located adjacent to The Lost Colony's Waterside Theatre and Fort Raleigh National Historic Park on Roanoke Island nestled near North Carolina's Outer Banks.
