Description
Ein Gedi is truly an oasis in the wilderness! The elevation of the land ranges from the level of the Dead Sea, the lowest place on earth, to the plateau of the Judean Desert at 200 meters above sea level. Ein Gedi is mentioned by name a number of times in the Bible; however, my favorite reference is about David fleeing from Saul and dwelling "in the strongholds at En Gedi" (1 Sam 23:29). In one of the caves David cuts off the corner of Saul's robe (1 Sam 24: 4). It became a nature reserve in Israel in 1971 and has two main spring-fed streams with flowing water year-round....Nahal David and Nahal Arugot.
