Description
For many years I thought that cotton was only harvested in the summer. I guess I got that idea from movies, In truth, it depends on the location. Harvest time can be anywhere from July-November. In the United States, Texas and deep south states harvest in the summer while states that are more northern can harvest as late as November. That is the case in this photograph as it was taken in November in North Carolina. The fields are indeed ready for harvest! The cultivation of cotton has existed for 5,000 years and it grown around the world. It is estimated that about 20 million tons of cotton are produced each year in around 90 countries. Over 75% if this amount is produced by China, United States, India, Pakistan, Uzbekistan and West Africa..Enjoy the flied of southern snow!
