Description
An "Out of Africa" experience can be had at Asheboro Zoo in North Carolina. The "Watani Grasslands" mimic the great savanna of Africa and are home to a herd of African Elephants. Here, the elephants are free to roam around a large area which is shared with a few other animals like rhinos and gazelles. Elephants are large social and intelligent mammals. They express themselves and communicate to one another in a variety of sounds. "From powerful roars to low-frequency rumbles, elephants use a variety of vocalizations to communicate. Their sounds also include snorts, barks, grunts, trumpets, cries, and even imitated sounds. These calls are essential cues for the survival of an elephant family." Lydia, this is a great capture, doesn't look like a zoo photograph! Must be a wonderful spot for humans and creatures alike! LF
