Description
This panoramic photograph of Jerusalem was taken as I was standing on The Mount of Olives. At the base of the Mount of Olives is the Garden of Gethsemane, the place where Jesus was praying when he was apprehended, and betrayed by Judas. The Kidron Valley separates the " Old City " from the Mount of Olives. Jesus would have walked through this valley on his way to be tried in the middle of the night by his accusers. Jerusalem, an ancient city, was in the control of the Jebusites when captured by King David around 1000 BC. The Eastern Gate, or sometimes referred to as The Golden Gate,is the gate to the far right of the old wall and the gate that Messiah will "walk through" when He enters Jerusalem. As most of us know, The Temple Mount is the most contested acreage on the planet with The Dome Of The Rock ( in the center of the photograph) as the most prominent structure in the Old City. This Islamic Shrine sits on the site of Herod's Temple ( Temple during Jesus' life ) which was destroyed during the Roman Siege of Jerusalem in 70 CE. There remains a retaining wall ( not seen in this photograph ) from Herod's Temple that is known today as the Western Wall, the place where Jews and Christians alike go to pray.
